Northeastern U: Rush (Limbaugh) to Judgment

There are many losers from last week’s pile-on Rush Limbaugh, who was excoriated by many news and other organizations for racist quotes that were totally fabricated. In other words, journalists and educators either lied, or used lies carelessly without ascertaining the facts. A big loser: Northeastern University and its Center for Sports and Society.

Organizations are, for good or bad, people. And people such as educator Dan Lebowitz, who runs the institute, is one of the reasons why we’re having so many problems with higher education. He is executive director of, as it turns out, a decidedly left-leaning sports institute at Northeastern University. He weighed in with ESPN on the controversy after Rush Limbaugh had been dropped from the ownership bid for the St. Louis Rams with this:

"This reflects where we're moving in an ethical nature," said Dan Lebowitz, executive director of the Center for Sports and Society at Northeastern University.
"The league has 78 percent African-American players," Lebowitz said. "Do you bring in someone who has made racist statements to own a team that's largely made up of players the owner has made slurring statements about?"

The quotes were completely fabricated, created by activists to pin the “racism” label on Limbaugh. They were not able to find anything remotely racist in the talk king’s record of more than 20 years on radio, three hours a day, and simply invented the quotes.

And Professor Lebowitz, because perhaps he wanted to believe the libels, did…and, of course, joined the lynch mob. So Mediahope asked Professor Lebowitz to assess the story now, in retrospect. Silence.

How about it, professor? Care to set an example and comment on the episode?
